Light strips embedded in concrete for safety and accent lighting.

In an architectural project, the variety of materials, woodwork, and finishes is often essential to creating character. Yet, to design the lighting for the common areas of this building in Lausanne, a single fixture was all that was needed. Discover how the simplicity and extraordinary flexibility of our Picolinea range helped enhance both the entrance hall and the stairwell.

Lines of light that define the space

To add depth and rhythm to these circulation spaces, Picolinea NEMA linear profiles have been integrated in an irregular pattern into the concrete ceilings and walls. Featured in both the entrance and the stairwell, these light lines naturally guide movement while reinforcing the building’s architectural identity.

Beyond their function as emergency lighting, they create a contemporary and elegant atmosphere. Thanks to a perfectly discreet trimless integration, the light appears to emerge directly from the material, highlighting the volumes and textures of the raw concrete. Combined with motion sensors, the lighting activates only when necessary, ensuring user comfort and energy efficiency.

Linear profiles offer unparalleled design flexibility and blend seamlessly into any environment.

If a single type of luminaire was able to illuminate all of these spaces, it is thanks to its remarkable adaptability. Entirely custom-made, the Picolinea profiles were designed to meet the project’s specific requirements: dimensions, lengths, installation methods, and lighting control were all tailored to blend seamlessly with the building’s architecture.

Robust, flexible, and durable, the Picolinea range demonstrates its full potential here in a demanding environment, where light does more than simply illuminate—it plays a full part in the architectural experience of the space.
