This lighting project highlights Aboriginal art and culture in all their splendor, while respecting the architecture and atmosphere of the site, the Opale Foundation in Lens (VS).

Lighting plays a crucial role in the visitor experience and in showcasing artworks and architectural spaces. Our goal is to create a harmonious, functional, and sustainable lighting ambiance while respecting the spaces. Our design office worked in close collaboration with the architects to integrate light fixtures based on original designs inspired by Aboriginal culture. The objective was to combine aesthetics, symbolism, and technical performance, while honoring the history and traditions highlighted by the Opale Foundation.

01
The choice of the Wave luminaire

For this project, the Wave luminaire by Intralighting was an obvious choice. With its fluid and organic design, it perfectly captures the spirit of Aboriginal motifs and integrates seamlessly into the spaces. This luminaire provides a soft, uniform light that creates a calming and immersive atmosphere, enhancing the artworks and architectural details.

02
Planning and expertise

The meticulous planning carried out by Clarma ensured faithful adherence to the original designs while guaranteeing energy efficiency and optimal installation. Particular attention was paid to every detail to ensure the final result enhances the work of both artists and designers.

Drawing inspiration from natural forms and cultural patterns

The museum's entrance hall brilliantly showcases the vast potential of a well-thought-out lighting concept, even when utilizing a standard, cost-effective, and widely available LED profile (Wave Luminaire by Intra-Lighting). The elegant curves of this lighting subtly guide visitors while delineating spaces, leading them seamlessly to the reception desk. These organic shapes, reminiscent of a flowing river or a current of air, naturally invite one to close the door behind them. Yet, beneath this apparent fluidity lies a rigid material: the aluminum profile, entirely inflexible. The true complexity of this achievement lies in the technical precision with which each curvature segment was designed. This meticulous work was carried out in close collaboration with the manufacturer, Intra-Lighting, directly from their factory in Slovenia.

Each project is unique, and our approach is based on an in-depth analysis of the architecture and identity of the site. By understanding its distinctive features, we design custom lighting that enhances the spaces, reveals their essence, and creates perfect harmony between light, art, and architecture.

Once the design was approved by the architectural studio Evéquoz Ferreira Architectes and the project owner (Fondation Opale), the transportation and identification of the 88 unique pieces of this puzzle became a key step. This process enabled the BAUD Électricité teams to meticulously adhere to the final design, ensuring a faithful and harmonious result.

The project is currently being finalized in the Aula and library spaces. New images will soon be added to showcase this remarkable achievement.
