Catellani & Smith embodies a deeply human and artisanal vision of lighting design.
Born almost by chance in 1989, the brand came to life when Enzo Catellani, then simply a lamp retailer, created his first luminaires without knowing whether he would ever sell them. The success was immediate and unexpected marking the beginning of an adventure where creative instinct, freedom, and a touch of irony became founding principles.
The very name “Catellani & Smith” carries an air of mystery: Logan Smith, supposedly a London-based designer, was in fact… Enzo’s horse. A way to divert attention from himself and give the project an identity that was both credible and playfully offbeat.
To this day, Catellani & Smith remains true to its essence: each lamp is entirely handcrafted in Italy, in workshops along the banks of the Serio River, where time and care replace industrial frenzy.
Craftsmanship here is a commitment. The respect for the right gesture, attention to detail, and dedication of every collaborator give rise to unique luminaires—balancing poetry, technique, and formal perfection.
Because while beauty may be subjective, perfection is not.
For over 30 years, Catellani & Smith has captivated both the public and professionals with iconic creations such as the Macchina della Luce and Fil de Fer, regularly awarded at international exhibitions.
